About Us

Mt. Olive Preschool has been serving children and families since 1968.  It was established by Mt. Olive Lutheran Church to expand their ministry to the community.  The program and facility has grown and matured over the years to continually meet and provide a quality education for your child.

Our Philosophy

Mt. Olive Preschool believes that a child’s preschool experiences build foundations for future learning.  We help children develop in all areas; cognitively, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually, so that they feel confident and prepared to enter Kindergarten.

We provide an age appropriate play based curriculum which includes; teacher guided activities, child initiated play, group interactions,  as well as individual work.  We teach through multiple platforms such as learning games, music and movement, art, stories, Bible devotions, as well as indoor and outdoor play.

All of this is done within a safe and loving family environment.  At our school, children are given the freedom to create, explore, and experiment with love, support, and encouragement from the teachers.

What Our Families are Saying

My daughter goes to this school and they are amazing! Ms. Nulty, Ms. Ashley, Ms. Amanda, & Ms. Natalie are all great with the kids! My daughter was adopted from China and when we enrolled her only a year ago, she has learned so much English and number counting so quickly at only 4 years old. She learns to say “please, thank you, and excuse me” She gets along with the other children and plays with them without any problems. Sometimes, she won’t nap but when the other children do, she sits quietly and reads a book or plays with her stuffed animal silently. The teachers there are very accommodating and all the children are very comfortable with them. I don’t think there is any other school around the area where I feel I would have gotten a better schooling experience for my child than Mt. Olive.

I am so happy we found this school. I have three children who have attended and are currently attending. My children are safe and happy which makes me feel comfortable while at work. I couldn’t have gone back to work if I hadn’t found this school. I trust the teachers with the little hearts that run around outside of my body so much. We love you guys!!!!

We’ve been sending our toddler here for a year, and he’s absolutely thriving. He loves his teachers and friends, and he’s learning plenty of practical knowledge.

We’re not a Christian family, and that’s never been a problem.

Ashley

I have been teaching at Mt. Olive Preschool since 2013 and I have loved watching our school grow, develop, and thrive over these past years.  I took a short break from teaching in 2013, and again in 2016 to take care of my son and daughter after they were born, and quickly came back to teach as soon as they were old enough to attend the school. In 2022 I was promoted to Director / Lead Teacher.

I have had a passion for working with kids since the age of 12, the age I was hired for my first babysitting job, and that passion has grown and matured greatly as I grew into adulthood.  I studied and received my Bachelors of Science in Child and Adolescent Development at California State University Northridge in 2012, and most recently went back to school with the UCLA extension program to earn my units for the Director title.

My passion for creating a learning environment where a child is free to explore, create, and discover their world continues to grow with every year.  My style of teaching has a high emphasis on play and hands on learning, alongside teacher guided activities and projects. With those two wrapped together I can add a big bow of Positivity and Praise, so that any child can openly accept the gift of learning.

I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for Mt. Olive Preschool and for every child that has walked through our doors.

Amanda

Amanda holds her Bachelor’s Degree in Child development from Cal State Fullerton. After many years of dancing in front of live audiences, down Main Street at Disneyland, and DIsney Cruise LIne, she traveled to Shanghai China to teach English through Disney English. In between performing, she held lead teacher roles for preschool at Child’s World and Pre-K at Heritage Oak private Education. Whether dancing with kids or teaching them in a classroom setting, Amanda has always loved being hands on and working towards empowering kids to do their best!

Amanda is married to Darren and they have 2 daughters Kylie (Mt. Olive graduate) and Mackenzie (current student at Mt. Olive) with a little boy on the way (January 2021 Future Mt. Olive Student) Her philosophy is that kids learn best when they feel safe, have fun and get to explore and create! Her favorite part of teaching is watching the kids learn and grow through experiential learning.

Robyn

Robyn earned her Bachelors of Arts in Liberal Arts with and emphasis on teaching K-8th grades from Azusa Pacific University in 2003. She got her teaching credential from Azusa Pacific University in 2004 and has taught kindergarten, 5th, and 6th grades as an elementary teacher. After she had her first child, she decided to be a stay at home mom. She had four children by 2015 and is so glad she had the ability to stay with them all until they went to elementary school.

Robyn has a passion for working with children and youth. During her teenage years she babysat regularly after getting her training at Verdugo Hills Hospital. As a young adult until the present she has worked and volunteered with Middle School students at her church. Of course, she has also always had a passion for teaching and helping children reach their full potential.

As she had the opportunity to teach kinder and upper grade students, Robyn realized her strengths and passion was for early childhood education. She is currently pursuing a certificate in Early Childhood Education through UCLA Extension courses. Her philosophy of education is that children need to be seen, heard, loved, and supported. She believes that children learn best through playful, hands on activities, and they need the opportunity to freely explore ideas as well as be guided and supported in their learning development by teachers and parents. She joined the staff in November of 2021 and is so excited to be working with the fantastic teachers , parents and children at Mt. Olive Willalee Preschool.

Frequently Asked Questions

What credentials do your teachers hold?
Every staff member at our school is required to hold at 12 college units or more in Early Childhood Education. Our current staff has either their AA or BA/BS from accredited colleges. Each staff member is also CPR and first Aid certified.
You state that you potty train. What steps do you use to potty train a child?
First, we base potty training on the child’s lead and interest. We want your child to be excited and interested in this new stage of their lives. Once interest is expressed we gently encourage your child to use the potty often. We develop a plan with the family to create consistency for your child. A child should never feel shamed or embarrassed on this journey, so we take a positive approach using incentives such as stickers and our treasure chest to reward and encourage your child.
Does my child have to nap?

If you enroll your child full time, then by law the child does need to have a rest time. We require the child to stay on their nap bed during nap time, but we tell them they do not have to sleep, they just need to be quiet and rest. Most children fall asleep during nap time because of the quiet and calm setting we provide for them.

What do you do when a child acts out or shows bad behavior?
We encourage children to make good choices and follow classroom rules throughout the day. If a child has difficulties with that, we focus on communication. We first listen to what frustrated the child, from there the teacher will walk through how they could have solved their problem in a more positive and communicative way. If this approach is still difficult for the child we will redirect the behavior by changing their toy choice, or having them choose a different friend to play with. If there is repeated behavior or if a child harms another child they are given a time out. Time out takes place in the same area as the rest of the kids. The purpose for time outs are to have a safe place where the child can calm down, think about the behavior and then have the chance to talk it through. We do not use time outs in order to shame a child. Once the behavior is corrected we look out for ways to positively reinforce the child when good choices are being made again. We also encourage the children to talk to one another to learn to set healthy boundaries and to understand peer interaction.
